Description

Commemorative philatelic and numismatic collection produced by The Danbury Mint for the Post Office to mark the Silver Jubilee of H.M. Queen Elizabeth II in 1977. The set features an enlarged proof-quality replica of the 10p commemorative stamp struck in solid sterling silver. The obverse depicts the profile of the Queen within an octagonal frame, flanked by the initials E R and the dates 1952 and 1977. The reverse carries an inscription identifying it as a commemorative replica of the official stamp design and bears full London assay office hallmarks for 1977. These marks include the lion passant for sterling silver, the leopard’s head for the London assay office, the date letter C, and the special commemorative mark of the Queen’s head used specifically for the Silver Jubilee year. A sponsor’s mark D.M for Danbury Mint is also present. The set includes an official Post Office First Day Cover featuring the full series of four Jubilee stamps, postmarked Windsor Berks on 11 May 1977. The collection is accompanied by a Certificate of Authenticity signed by Ian Kerr and a trifold descriptive brochure providing background on the issue. All components are housed in a blue fabric-lined presentation case.
