Description

A collection of two British service medals from the First World War. The group includes a silver British War Medal 1914-1918 and a bronze 1914-15 Star. The British War Medal features the coinage profile of King George V on the obverse with the legend GEORGIVS V BRITT: OMN: REX ET IND: IMP:, and a reverse depicting St George on horseback above the dates 1914 and 1918. It is suspended from an orange, white, black, and blue striped ribbon. The 1914-15 Star is a four-pointed star design with crossed swords and a crown, featuring a central scroll dated 1914-15 within a laurel wreath. The reverse is engraved with the recipient’s details: 110628. PNR. W. J. WHITNEY. R. E., identifying the award to a Pioneer in the Royal Engineers. The star is currently mounted on a rainbow-coloured ribbon typically associated with the Victory Medal.
