Description

This Royal Mail philatelic numismatic cover (PNC) was issued to commemorate the centenary of the Representation of the People Act, 1918. The white envelope features an assortment of stamps from the ‘Votes for Women’ issue (SG 4053-4060), with denominations of 2nd class, 1st class, £1.40, and £1.57. Each stamp depicts a monochrome archival photograph related to the suffragette movement. The stamps are cancelled with three identical pictorial circular date stamps dated 15.2.2018, incorporating the text 100th Anniversary of the Representation of the People Act 1918 and the motto COURAGE CONSTANCY SUCCESS. An uncirculated 50p coin is inset into the cover, featuring the inscription 1918 Representation of the People Act. The lower section of the envelope displays a historical monochrome photograph of a suffrage demonstration with a banner reading THE BILL MUST GO THROUGH. The item is individually numbered 02104 and bears the Royal Mail Tallents House marginal inscription.
