A Victorian 15 Carat Gold Etruscan Revival Bar Brooch
Description
This late Victorian bar brooch is crafted in 15 carat yellow gold and designed in the Etruscan Revival style. The central feature is a raised circular boss with a starburst motif, surrounded by concentric borders of fine beaded and granulated metalwork. This central element is flanked by tapered shoulders featuring embossed foliate and scroll decorations. The reverse of the brooch contains a small circular glazed locket compartment, traditionally used for housing a photograph or a lock of hair as sentimental jewellery. The piece is fitted with a hinged gold pin and a simple C-clasp, and includes an attached safety chain with a small safety pin for additional security. The reverse bears several hallmarks, including the maker mark FB, the Birmingham assay office anchor, the standard marks 15 and .625, and a date letter.
