Late Victorian or Edwardian Engine-Turned Yellow Metal Propelling Pencil Fob
Description
An antique propelling pencil designed for use as a fob or pendant. The cylindrical yellow metal body features an all-over engine-turned barleycorn pattern. It is constructed with a stepped nozzle at the writing tip and a polished terminal fitted with a circular suspension loop for attachment to a watch chain or necklace. A small rectangular cartouche is located on the engine-turned section of the body, and a further small mark is visible on the jump ring, though both are worn and not clearly legible. This piece is in the style of retractable writing instruments produced by makers such as Sampson Mordan and Co.
Length: Approximately 40mm – 50mm (closed).
