A Collection of English Earthenware Two-Handled Loving Cups and Cider Mugs including Taunton Cider Promotional Items

This collection consists of several two-handled earthenware loving cups and cider mugs of various sizes and designs, primarily featuring transfer-printed and hand-painted decoration. Included are multiple promotional items for the Taunton Cider Company, historically based in Norton Fitzwarren, Somerset. These promotional pieces include a medium cream-coloured loving cup for Dry Blackthorn Cider with black transfer-printed text; two mugs featuring the Taunton Cider logo with a red T and apple motifs; and a small mug depicting a black transfer-printed cider-related scene. Many of these promotional items are attributed to Wade Potteries as special editions. The collection also contains a large teal green ground loving cup with hand-painted floral motifs in pink and purple, featuring a scalloped ochre border to the interior rim. Another large earthenware cup features The Farmer’s Arms motifs with a central crest, beehive, and agricultural rhymes in black transfer print. A medium-sized mug depicts a rural landscape with a large tree and a decorative scrolled border inside the rim.
