Lot 193:
A Pair of Gothic Revival Wrought Iron and Turned Wood Wall Sconces
Description
This pair of wall-mounted torchieres is designed in the Gothic Revival style, common in the late 19th to early 20th centuries. Each piece features a long, tapered stem of turned hardwood, likely beech or oak, finished in a natural light-brown tone and decorated with incised ring details. The wooden stems are fitted with wrought iron fixtures, comprising a circular socket with a crenellated rim designed to resemble castle battlements. Each iron socket is supported by a curved arm that connects to a diamond-shaped wall mounting plate. The metal components are finished with a dark, aged patina. The construction involves the metalwork being joined to the wood with collars. The wall plates feature pre-drilled holes for mounting. No maker’s marks or inscriptions are visible on the exterior surfaces of the wood or metalwork.
