Lot 37:
Traditional Masonic Chipping Gavel and Matching Three-Tiered Sound Block
Description
A traditional Masonic chipping style gavel and matching three-tiered square sound block. The gavel features a distinctive wedge-shaped head, characteristic of symbolic stonemason’s tools, rather than a standard cylindrical form. It is constructed from a dark-stained hardwood with a visible grain. One face of the head is inset with a dark-coloured material in the form of a chevron or inverted V. The handle is decoratively turned with two ribbed sections and terminates in a rounded pommel. The accompanying sound block consists of three graduated square tiers.
