A Pair of Royal Masonic Institution for Boys Steward Jewels Dated 1948 and 1985
Description
This lot consists of two commemorative Masonic charity jewels awarded to individuals serving as stewards for the Royal Masonic Institution for Boys (RMIB) festival appeals. Both items are constructed from gilt metal and enamel, suspended from light blue ribbons.
The first jewel, dated 1948, features a white enamel top suspension bar with the word STEWARD in gilt lettering. It is suspended from a light blue watered silk ribbon. The gilt pendant comprises a circular wreath enclosing a multi-coloured enamel heraldic shield. The border is decorated with blue enamel scrolls inscribed ROYAL MASONIC INSTN and FOR BOYS. A small shield-shaped element to the right is dated 1948.
The second jewel, dated 1985, is specific to the Province of Essex. The top suspension bar is finished in blue enamel with the word STEWARD in gilt. The shield-shaped pendant features a blue enamel scroll at the top inscribed R.M.I. BOYS 1985. The central shield is in red enamel and depicts three silver-coloured seaxes, which is the heraldic emblem for the Province of Essex. The lower gilt border is embossed with the words PROVINCE OF ESSEX.
