Antique Carved Oak Coffer in the 17th-Century Style
Description
An antique oak coffer or blanket chest, executed in the late 17th-century Jacobean style. The piece is constructed from dark-stained oak with a prominent visible grain. The top is composed of two wide planks and is attached with surface-mounted metal butterfly-style hinges. The front features a frame-and-panel construction, with a central hand-carved symmetrical scrollwork or strapwork motif. The chest rests upon a simple moulded base. No maker’s marks, stamps, or labels are visible on the exterior of the item.
