1876 British Gold Sovereign
Description
This gold British Sovereign coin, minted in 1876, features the classic Saint George and the Dragon design by Benedetto Pistrucci on the reverse. The date 1876 is clearly struck in the exergue at the base. The obverse depicts the Young Head portrait of Queen Victoria. The coin is struck in 22-carat gold with a fineness of .9167. The absence of a mint mark identifies this specimen as a product of the Royal Mint in London.
