Lot 61:
A Japanese Bronze Okimono of a Pheasant on Carved Hardwood Base
Description
This patinated bronze sculpture depicts a pheasant, rendered in a naturalistic style characteristic of the Japanese Meiji period. The bird is cast with detailed, overlapping plumage and a textured head, finished in a dark brown patina. It is mounted on a separate carved hardwood base, shaped to resemble a gnarled root or rock formation. This type of decorative object, known as an okimono, was frequently produced during the late 19th and early 20th centuries for the export market. No signatures, foundry marks, or edition numbers are visible on the bronze or the wooden mount.
