Description

A large Japanese Imari porcelain charger of circular form. The piece is decorated in the Kinrande style using underglaze cobalt blue, overglaze iron-red enamels, and gilding. The interior surface is divided into six alternating fan-shaped panels. Three panels depict bijin (beautiful women) in traditional dress within interior or garden settings, while the opposing three panels feature detailed mountainous landscape scenes with pavilions and small figures. These reserves are set against an orange seigaiha (blue sea wave) pattern ground. The central circular medallion is decorated with complex geometric and floral patterns, including pine and floral sprigs. The reverse is decorated with three simple foliate sprays in underglaze blue. The base features a square mark in red enamel containing the character 正 (Sho).

Diameter: 40.5 cm.
