Description

A 19th-century mahogany straight-front chest of drawers of English origin, dating from the Regency to early Victorian period. The piece is constructed with a rectangular top and simple moulded edges above four long, graduated drawers. The primary timber is mahogany, exhibiting a figured grain and a deep patina. Each drawer is furnished with a pair of period-correct turned mahogany knobs and a central inlaid escutcheon to the keyhole. The drawer construction includes hand-cut dovetail joints with visible scribe marks from the marking-out process, and linings of a secondary wood, likely oak. The chest is raised on a plinth base terminating in bracket feet.
