Description

A British World War II era Civilian Duty Respirator (CDR) manufactured by James G. Carrick and Co. Ltd. of Glasgow. The respirator consists of a black moulded rubber facepiece fitted with an adjustable fabric and elasticated head harness. It features a single front-mounted metal canister filter with a green-painted perforated face. The facepiece is marked with white stamped characters reading J.G.C. & CO. LTD. and is dated NOV. 1937. It also bears a stamp reading LOT 75. The item is accompanied by its original cardboard transit and storage box, which retains its string handle. The interior lid flap features a printed instructional label titled PACKING OF RESPIRATOR and When Respirator is required for use. The base of the label is marked C. E. & Co. Ltd. This model of respirator was issued to personnel with specific civil defence duties during the conflict, such as Air Raid Wardens, police officers, and firefighters.
