A Regency Sarcophagus Form Burr Wood Tea Caddy
Description
A Regency period rectangular tea caddy of sarcophagus form, featuring a truncated pyramid lid. The exterior is finished in a burr wood veneer, possibly burr maple or burr walnut, accented with dark wood stringing to the edges. The caddy is fitted with two turned wooden handles to the sides and a small circular keyhole escutcheon to the front face. The interior is lined throughout with a multi-coloured, chintz-style floral patterned paper. The box construction is of a single compartment without internal dividers or lids. No maker marks or signatures are present.
