A large group of Royal Doulton earthenware dinner service pieces in the Athlone pattern, pattern number D5551. Produced in England, this Art Deco style set features a cream ground decorated with a stylized transfer-printed motif of leaf-like clusters in autumnal shades of tan and brown, accented with circular banding. The collection includes a covered vegetable tureen, a large open serving bowl, a group of dinner plates, and an assortment of side or dessert plates. The underside of the pieces bears a green factory backstamp featuring a lion standing upon a crown, surrounded by the words Made in England and Royal Doulton. Below this, the pattern name Athlone and the number D5551 are printed in a light brown tone.
