This lot features two hand-painted miniature portraits of women, created in a romanticised 18th-century revival style. The first miniature depicts a lady with powdered hair adorned with flowers, wearing a blue gown and holding a rose. This piece features small inscriptions on either side of the subject, appearing to read I, H on the left and E, n, n, i on the right. It is housed in an ornate gilt-metal oval frame with a decorative scrolling filigree border and a suspension loop. The second miniature depicts a woman with dark hair in a diaphanous white garment, set in a metal bezel within a circular green velvet-covered frame. Both works exhibit the extremely fine, stippled brushwork characteristic of late 19th to early 20th-century miniatures, likely executed in watercolour or gouache on a thin plaque of ivory or a similar organic substrate.
