The artist Douglas is the pseudonym of Douglas Machin, a regular illustrator for the publication during the mid-20th century. The dedicatee is fellow Punch artist George Alexander Whitelaw (1887-1957). The work is housed in a blue-grey textured wooden frame with an off-white mat.
