Description

This quarto volume is bound in the publisher’s dark, textured cloth. The front board features blind-stamped decorative borders enclosing the title and author’s name in gold-toned lettering. The title page identifies the work as a description of a tour by a party of artists along the banks and tributaries of the River Wharfe, from Cawood to Campfell. It contains numerous black and white illustrations by artists including W. Gilbert Foster, A. Haselgrave, G. W. Preston, Percy Robinson, J. Manham, and T. Fenton, supplemented by photographs taken by the author. The title page bears the imprints of Simpkin, Marshall, Hamilton, Kent, & Co., Ltd. in London and Edmund Bogg at 3, Woodhouse Lane in Leeds. Printing was executed by Goodall & Suddick, Leeds. The work is a significant example of late nineteenth-century regional topography focused on Yorkshire.
