An English semi-porcelain washstand set comprising a large water jug and a coordinating oval basin. The pieces feature a flow blue transfer-printed decoration in the Lowestoft pattern, depicting romanticised floral bouquets of peonies and foliage, accented with carmine pink highlights. The set is finished with scrolled navy blue borders and gilt lining to the rims and the high-arching strap handle of the jug. The jug is designed with a bulbous body and a wide, scrolling spout, while the basin is deep with a broad, flared rim. The underside of the basin bears a blue underglaze transfer mark featuring a central crown symbol. Above the crown is printed LOWESTOFT and SEMI-PORCELAIN; to the right, a scrolled banner contains the text WOOD & SONS and ENGLAND. The base also displays hand-painted marks in red reading X 7 A.
