A contemporary mixed media work on a deep-edged gallery-wrapped canvas by Jacqueline Hurley. The composition features a textured, monochromatic coastal scene in shades of grey, white, and black. Centred is a black silhouette of a sailor and a woman in a celebratory embrace, referencing the iconic V-J Day photograph. In the background, a naval ship is depicted on the horizon beneath three seagulls. The foreground and lower left corner are dominated by several high-relief, impasto-style red poppies with black beaded centres. The sky and sea areas exhibit heavy surface texturing, suggesting the use of paper or fabric beneath the acrylic paint. The image continues around the deep edges of the canvas, which are finished in black paint. The work is signed in white script in the lower right corner JHurleyz.
