A large Art Deco hand-painted earthenware dish featuring a central raised boss within a shallow well and a wide, flat rim. The body is a terracotta-toned earthenware, which is visible at the unglazed foot ring on the reverse. The upper surface is decorated with three stylized birds in shades of brown and yellow, set between broad radial bands of green. The interstitial spaces are filled with simplified floral blossoms and foliate sprays in a palette of blue, purple, and yellow, finished with a blue rim border. The piece is covered in a clear glaze exhibiting significant crazing throughout. There are also hand-painted marks in black slip or ink reading N or Z over / 61. Faint white painted marks are present near the foot rim.
