Description

Two pieces of English earthenware pottery manufactured by Poole Pottery. The first item is a shell-moulded conch-form planter or flower boat. The exterior is finished in a mottled grey and blue glaze, known as the Twintone effect, while the interior features a pale shell-pink glaze. The underside is impressed with a rectangular stamp reading POOLE ENGLAND C97. It rests on three unglazed feet.

The second item is a small earthenware vase with a bulbous body and a flared, crimped rim. The white ground is hand-decorated with a floral spray featuring a purple rose, a pink rose, and green leaves. The rim is detailed with a horizontal yellow band and a border of purple dashes. The base bears a printed circular mark in grey featuring a central dolphin or sea creature symbol, with the words POOLE above and ENGLAND below. There are hand-painted green characters below the mark reading KNX, signifying the individual decorator.
