Description

A philatelic and numismatic first day cover issued jointly by Royal Mail and La Poste to commemorate the centenary of the Entente Cordiale (1904-2004). The cover features a set of four stamps: two British issues with denominations of 28p and 57p featuring the Machin silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II, and two French issues with denominations of 0,75 euro and 0,50 euro marked RF. The stamps exhibit abstract designs in red, black, and multicoloured circular motifs. The cover bears dual circular date stamp cancellations dated 6 April 2004, one for London SW1 and one for Paris (Premier Jour), both depicting a graphic of crossed British and French flags. The envelope is decorated with bilingual typographic script in blue ink over a central pink band bearing the commemorative text. It is individually numbered 06054 in the lower right corner. Integrated into the cover is a commemorative five-pound (£5) coin featuring the figures of Britannia and Marianne, inscribed with the words ENTENTE CORDIALE and the date 2004.
