2002 England Football World Cup 1 Pound Coin First Day Cover

A limited edition commemorative philatelic and numismatic cover celebrating the England national football team’s participation in the 2002 FIFA World Cup. The cover features a central graphic depicting two players in action, including an England player in the 2001 to 2003 home kit with the number 9. The philatelic elements consist of two 1st class Royal Mail stamps; one features the England Three Lions crest with a silhouette of Queen Elizabeth II, and the other depicts the St George’s Cross flag interspersed with footballs. Both stamps are cancelled with special Wembley circular handstamps dated 31.5.02, coinciding with the tournament’s opening day. Inset into the lower left is a gold-tone commemorative one pound coin embossed with the Three Lions crest and the text THREE LIONS. The cover is printed with ENGLAND in large red block letters and is marked Limited Edition with a printed serial number box containing the number 03365.
