19th Century Figural Carved Meerschaum Tobacco Pipe in Original Case
Description
An antique figural tobacco pipe featuring a hand-carved meerschaum bowl in the form of a man’s head, depicted with a mustache and a wide-brimmed hat. The pipe is fitted with a decorative, chased metal ferrule connecting the bowl to a translucent, honey-coloured stem and a black mouthpiece. It is housed in a custom-fitted, hinged wooden case with an olive-green velvet lining. The interior lid of the case bears a gold-stamped heraldic crest consisting of a crown above a shield flanked by two eagles, with a banner below containing worn, illegible text. The meerschaum displays a rich, aged patina consistent with historical use. No maker’s marks are clearly visible on the pipe or ferrule.
