2009 Guernsey Five Pounds - 100 Years of Naval Aviation (KM 173)

This cupronickel five-pound coin was issued by the Bailiwick of Guernsey in 2009 to commemorate the centenary of naval aviation. The obverse features the fourth definitive portrait of Queen Elizabeth II by Ian Rank-Broadley, as indicated by the IRB initials beneath the truncation, and is inscribed ELIZABETH II and BAILIWICK OF GUERNSEY 2009. The reverse depicts a biplane taking off from the deck of a naval vessel, with the inscriptions 100 YEARS OF NAVAL AVIATION and the denomination FIVE POUNDS, alongside a small FLY NAVY logo. The coin is silver in colour with a proof-like finish and is housed in a clear protective acrylic capsule.
