A Pair of Vintage Esso and Mex Petrol Can Caps

A pair of cast metal caps for fuel drums or petroleum cans. One cap is embossed with the letters ESSO, representing the Standard Oil company. The second cap is embossed with the letters MEX, associated with the Shell-Mex or Mexican Eagle Petroleum Company. Both items are constructed from cast brass or bronze with internal screw threading. The top of each cap features two raised lugs, each containing a small aperture designed for security seals or safety wires to prevent tampering.
