A cast bronze zoomorphic finial or mount, created in an archaic Chinese style reminiscent of the Shang or Western Zhou dynasties. The object portrays a stylised creature, possibly a bird or dragon, with an elaborate openwork crest composed of scroll motifs. The central body is decorated in relief with traditional bands of leiwen or thunder patterns. The surface has been treated with a heavy, mottled green and brown patina with significant mineral encrustation to simulate the appearance of an excavated antiquity. A square socket is present at the base of the bronze, which is currently mounted on a modern dark wood block base with a central supporting peg. No inscriptions or marks are visible on the exterior or interior of the socket.
