A pair of baluster-shaped ginger jars with domed lids, in the style of Fujita Kutani. The jars are constructed from ceramic with a cream-coloured crackle glaze typical of the Satsuma tradition. The central body of each jar is decorated with a wide frieze depicting figures in traditional robes, likely scholars or sages, accompanied by vertical columns of black calligraphic script. The shoulder and base sections feature a dark blue ground intricately decorated with gilded floral motifs, including chrysanthemums, and geometric borders such as the Greek key pattern. Each lid matches the dark blue and gold floral decoration and is surmounted by a pointed gilded finial. The jars are presented on circular dark wood stands with scrolled feet. These items are characteristic of Japanese export ware from the late Meiji or Taisho periods.
