A cavalry officer’s sabre and matching scabbard, designed in the style of those used by the Confederate States of America (CSA) during the American Civil War. The weapon features a curved, single-edged steel blade with a single fuller. The blade is decorated with ornate acid-etched floral scrollwork. Within the decorative etching on one side of the blade is a large, stylized inscription reading ‘CSA’. A smaller rectangular mark containing the letters ‘CSA’ is positioned near the ricasso. The hilt is constructed of brass and features a three-branch guard with a foliate-decorated pommel cap. The letters ‘CSA’ are cast into the decorative metalwork between the branches of the guard. The grip is wrapped in black leather and bound with twisted brass wire. The sabre is housed in a darkened steel scabbard featuring a brass throat, two brass suspension bands with rings, a decorative connecting chain, and a brass drag. No manufacturer’s name or date is legible on the piece.
