A vintage pocket cigarette case of rectangular form, featuring a distinctive horizontal ribbed or fluted exterior. The design includes fine engraved foliate or rice-grain patterns within the recessed channels of the ribs (photo 1). The interior has a light-coloured silver-washed appearance and retains a single elasticated retaining strap. The piece is constructed with a hinged opening and a simple push-button release. Stamped on the interior rim is a mark consisting of the characters EPNS followed by a small unidentifiable symbol (photo 4). The abbreviation EPNS stands for Electro-Plated Nickel Silver, indicating the item is silver-plated.
