Lot 80:
Two Sterling Silver Items Including a Tea Strainer and an Embossed Napkin Ring
Description
A lot comprising two pieces of hallmarked sterling silver.
The first item is a circular tea strainer featuring two open-scroll handles and a beaded rim. The central bowl is designed with a fine circular pierced mesh pattern. The interior rim bears a set of impressed British hallmarks consisting of the maker mark S&S in a rectangular punch, an anchor symbol for the Birmingham Assay Office, a lion passant standard mark, and a lowercase Roman letter n in a shield-shaped punch.
The second item is a cylindrical napkin ring of flared form. The exterior is decorated with embossed scrolling foliage and floral motifs at the top and bottom borders. The central band features an engraved repeating leaf pattern and a plain rectangular cartouche. The decorative band contains a series of partially worn impressed marks: the characters J R followed by an illegible third character, a crown symbol for the Sheffield Assay Office, and a lion passant standard mark. The date letter is contained within a square punch but is not legible as a specific character.
A handwritten paper tag is attached by a white string, reading Hm Silver 46.05gm.
Weight: 46.05 g.
