Description

This lot consists of two commemorative items related to British National Hunt racing and to celebrate the National Hunt Winners in the season 1988/89. The first item is a fine bone china plate manufactured by Astbury Fine Bone China at the Royal Albert Works, Staffordshire, England. It commemorates the 1988-89 National Hunt Champions from Pond House Stables. The face of the plate features portraits of trainer Martin Pipe and jockey Peter Scudamore with facsimile signatures and a central illustration of a stable door. The rim is printed with the names of numerous British racecourses including Aintree, Cheltenham, and Kempton. The reverse is marked with the manufacturer’s crown logo and text detailing Martin Pipe’s record of 208 winners and Peter Scudamore’s record of 221 winners. It is designated as Numbered Edition 761 with photography credited to Gordon Clayton L.M.P.A.

The second item is an unopened 500ml bottle of conditioned ale from the Warrior Brewery, Exeter, celebrating Comply or Die, the winner of the 2008 Grand National. The label identifies the horse and jockey Timmy Murphy and has an ABV of 5%. The label bears several handwritten ink inscriptions and signatures including Happy National Martin Pipe from the legendary trainer Martin Pipe CBE, and To Chubby Best Wishes David Pipe from the trainer of Comply or Die. It also features a personal inscription with love Carol x and a handwritten date and time of 7.30pm 23.5.08. The bottle is sealed with its original red crown cap.
