Description

A silver-plated tankard by the Sheffield firm James Dixon & Sons. The tankard is constructed from electroplated Britannia metal (EPBM) and features a flared base, a slightly tapered body, and a simple loop handle. The base is stamped with the text WYCH STREET above the number 6056. Below this is a series of stamped marks including the initials JD&S, a bugle or trumpet symbol, a crown, a gothic E, and a gothic P, alongside a circular mark containing the letters EPBM. These marks identify the maker as James Dixon & Sons, with the Wych Street stamp likely referring to a historic London retailer or location. The body of the tankard bears a faint, partially legible inscription that appears to include the word BRITISH.
