Japanese Imari Style Porcelain Charger Showa Period
Description
A large Japanese porcelain charger decorated in the traditional Imari palette of underglaze blue, iron-red enamels, and gilt highlights. The central circular reserve depicts a kingfisher bird perched on a branch amongst flowering peonies and chrysanthemums. The central scene is surrounded by a wide border divided into six alternating panels. Three panels feature floral sprays within white reserves against a cobalt blue ground with gilt scrolling and white chrysanthemum heads. The intervening panels display a red-ground geometric lattice design with central quatrefoil floral medallions. The reverse of the plate features a four-character mark in red enamel within a square border which reads Showa Kinsei, indicating it was respectfully made during the Showa period.
Diameter: 31 cm.
