T.F. Richards, Widdicombe Fair, Tinted Lithograph
Description
A large tinted lithograph titled WIDDICOMBE FAIR, providing a narrative illustration of the traditional Devon folk song. The composition features eight numbered vignette panels detailing the story of the grey mare, arranged around a large central scene depicting Uncle Tom Cobleigh and his companions riding the horse towards the fair. The work is signed in the stone T.F. Richards 1916 at the lower right of the central illustration. Printed lettering at the bottom left identifies the lithographers as VINCENT BROOKE, DAY & SON LTD LITH LONDON W.C.2, while the top right margin indicates it was Published in London in 1921 by Samuel J. Cuthall of Streatham. The print includes the full lyrics for the chorus at the base. It is housed in a simple modern light-wood frame under glass.
