Lot 178:
A Collection of Silver-Plated and Metal Tablewares
Description
This group comprises an assortment of silver-plated and metal tablewares. The collection features a tall baluster-form coffee or chocolate pot with a scroll-form handle, a curved spout, and a domed lid with a decorative finial. The items include multiple large goblets with flared rims and knopped stems, as well as several smaller chalice-style goblets of varying designs. The assortment contains multiple tankards, one possessing a dull grey finish characteristic of pewter and another silver-plated with an ornate handle. Also present is a decorative serving implement with an embossed and engraved blade displaying Art Nouveau-style scrollwork and a foliate-decorated handle. Additional pieces include a cut-glass sugar sifter with a pierced metal top and several small bowls, including a lobed footed example and a circular version resting on scroll feet. Within the bowls are sugar tongs and a condiment spoon. The items appear to be predominantly silver-plated base metal, likely electroplated nickel silver (EPNS), with visible signs of the base metal where plating has worn. No maker’s marks or hallmarks are clearly legible in the provided images.
