Victorian Samuelson and Co Gardner's Patent Double Acting Turnip Cutting Machine Plate
Description
A cast iron nameplate from a nineteenth-century agricultural machine manufactured by Samuelson and Co of Banbury. The panel features raised moulded lettering and a central heraldic crest depicting three lions rampant encircling a circular device. The text identifies the machine as a Double Acting Gardner’s Patent Turnip Cutting Machine. The raised inscriptions include Samuelson’s Patent, Double Acting, Gardner’s, Turnip Cutting Machine, Banbury, and The Last Piece. The plate is roughly rectangular with one chamfered corner and the raised details have been highlighted with yellow paint. Samuelson and Co was a significant agricultural engineering firm based in Oxfordshire which specialised in livestock feeding equipment.
