A Mid-20th Century Marcasite and Silver Foliate Swirl Brooch

A silver brooch designed in an abstract swirling foliate motif featuring openwork radiating elements. The front of the brooch is pave-set with numerous small faceted marcasites and includes a single larger clear paste stone set near the lower edge of the design. The reverse is stamped with the word SILVER in uppercase block letters on the back of one foliate element. A circular indentation is visible in the centre of the reverse, which appears to be a manufacturing mark or a worn stamp. The piece is fitted with a horizontal hinged pin and a rollover safety clasp. This style is consistent with British or European jewellery manufacturing from the mid-20th century.
