Lot 32:
A Collection of UK Decimal Coinage including a 1971 First Decimal Set and 1973 EEC Commemorative 50 Pence Coins
Description
A collection of UK cupro-nickel and bronze decimal coinage. The lot includes a Britain’s First Decimal Coins blue vinyl presentation folder containing five coins: a bronze half penny, one penny, and two pence, and cupro-nickel five and ten pence coins. All coins in this set feature the Arnold Machin portrait of Elizabeth II on the obverse. Also present is a pair of 1973 cupro-nickel 50 pence coins issued to commemorate the United Kingdom’s entry into the European Economic Community (EEC). These feature the Machin portrait on the obverse and an EEC commemorative reverse. Each is housed in its original red leatherette presentation case, which displays a stylized eec logo on the lid and the Royal Mint crest on the interior satin lining. A loose 1977 cupro-nickel 50 pence coin completes the group, featuring the standard Britannia reverse and the Machin portrait on the obverse.
