Lot 56:
A contemporary decorative figure of a seated Buddha in the Southeast Asian style
Description
A contemporary seated figure of Siddhartha Gautama, the Buddha, rendered in a Southeast Asian style with Thai and Burmese influences. The figure is depicted in the padmasana position, or lotus pose, with the hands held at the chest in a gesture resembling the Atmanjali Mudra, often associated with prayer or greeting. The sculpture is constructed from a cast composite material, likely resin or plaster, finished with a gold-toned paint. The figure is dressed in ornate robes featuring embossed five-petal floral motifs and borders decorated with scrolling vine patterns. Key iconographic elements include the ushnisha, or cranial protuberance, and tightly curled hair. This piece is a modern production intended for interior decoration.
