An Edwardian Cased White Metal Three-Piece Dessert Set by Atkin Brothers, Sheffield, 1905
Description
This three-piece set comprises two matching pairs of nutcrackers and a pair of grape shears. The nutcrackers feature textured gripping surfaces and plain tapering handles. The grape shears are decorated with foliate-patterned blades and simple loop handles. The items are presented in their original fitted hinged case featuring a dark textured exterior with a gilt-tooled border and a deep blue velvet and silk-lined interior. Each piece bears full British hallmarks on the stems or handles. The maker’s mark HA within an oval identifies the manufacturer as Atkin Brothers (Harry Atkin). The standard mark is the lion passant indicating .925 sterling silver (Not tested) The assay office mark is a crown for Sheffield. The date letter is a lowercase n for the year 1905. The grape shears are additionally stamped with a British Registered Design number transcribed as RDNº444935.
