1949 CA Silver Dollar KM# 47
Description
This 1949 silver dollar, catalogued as KM# 47, was struck to commemorate Newfoundland’s entry into the Canadian Confederation. The coin is composed of .800 fine silver. The obverse features the George VI portrait type with the Latin legend GEORGIVS VI DEI GRATIA REX. The reverse displays the sailing ship Matthew design type, accompanied by the inscriptions CANADA and DOLLAR, the date 1949, and the motto FLOREAT TERRA NOVA. The designer’s initials TS for Thomas Shingles are visible on the reverse.
