British Gilt and Enamel Trade Association Commemorative Jewel for the B.R.F. with Trowel Pendant and Five Dated Bars
Description
A contemporary fraternal or trade association commemorative jewel, likely awarded for service or as a past officer’s badge for a United Kingdom-based building industry organisation. The item is constructed from gilt metal and blue enamel, featuring a pale blue fabric ribbon connecting two horizontal bars. The right-hand bar is inscribed B.R.F. in gold-tone characters against a blue enamel ground. The left-hand bar features ornate scrollwork and blue enamel, inscribed with the word PAST and partially obscured lettering, likely reading PAST PRESIDENT or PAST CHAIRMAN.
Attached to the ribbon are five oval dated bars finished in varying gold, silver, and bronze tones. These bars are inscribed with the years 2001, 2002, 2007, 2011, and 2014. Suspended from the B.R.F. bar is a gold-tone metal pendant in the shape of a mason’s ceremonial trowel, a traditional symbol of the building and construction trades. The organisation initials B.R.F. likely correspond to a body such as the Building Registration Foundation or a similar builders’ federation.
