Late 19th or Early 20th Century Transfer-Printed Footballing Theme Ceramic Plate

A white glazed ceramic plate featuring a scalloped rim with moulded radial swirl decoration and a thin gilt line at the edge. The central well is decorated with a polychrome transfer-printed scene depicting a football match. The image shows five players in two distinct kits: one group in red shirts and dark blue shorts, and the other in light blue shirts and white shorts. A player in the foreground is depicted mid-motion, poised to kick a brown leather lace-up football. The style of the sports kits and the ball is characteristic of the late Victorian or early Edwardian era. The reverse of the plate has not been inspected for maker’s marks.
