An antique long guard chain, also known as a muff chain, constructed from 9 carat yellow gold. The chain consists of a series of uniform belcher links and terminates in a swivel dog-clip clasp. The dog-clip is marked with the incised characters 9CT within a rectangular cartouche, denoting a fineness of 9 carat gold. The design is typical of British jewellery from the late 19th or early 20th century.
