A decorative display model of the RRS Discovery, the auxiliary steamship famously utilised for Captain Robert Falcon Scott’s 1901–1904 Antarctic expedition. The three-masted barque-rigged vessel is constructed primarily from wood, with the hull finished in black paint on the upper section and red on the lower. The wooden deck features various details including two lifeboats, a central funnel, and deck houses. The rigging is comprised of brown thread supporting furled cream-coloured fabric sails. The ship is mounted via two black supports onto a rectangular wooden plinth base. A shaped brass-coloured metal plaque is affixed to the front of the base with two pins, inscribed with the name DISCOVERY and the date 1901. Additional components include a metal anchor chain and small metal deck fittings.
