Description

This lot comprises two pieces of Cold War-period military headgear. The first is a Soviet officer’s peaked service cap of the M69 pattern, featuring an olive-drab wool crown with a black fabric band and red piping, characteristic of the Tank, Artillery, Signal, or Engineering branches. It is fitted with a black lacquered plastic visor and a gold-coloured braided chin strap. The insignia is a gold-toned metal wreath cockade with a central red enamelled star. The interior is lined with tan fabric and features a grey diamond-shaped sweat protector. A faded black stamp is present on the lining containing the number 56; the surrounding text is not legible. The second item is a winter hat with earflaps, or ushanka, constructed from grey synthetic fur with a quilted grey-green fabric lining. It features a Soviet Army oval sunburst cockade with a central red enamelled star. On the interior, there is a printed white rectangular label under a plastic protector reading NVA 57, followed by several lines of illegible text. The NVA mark indicates original issue by the East German Nationale Volksarmee.
